We were then instructed to design and contract administer the works through to completion in a short time frame over the summer holidays. The works included the reconfiguration of a number of open plan teaching spaces to provide enclosed teaching areas, the refurbishment of the dining area and the conversion of a classroom into a science laboratory.
The key challenges were gaining an understanding of the existing fire strategy and ensuring that the reconfiguration works did not impact upon this and meeting the tight timescales for both design, negotiation and delivery.
We brought in a fire engineer at the design stage to advise on the existing fire strategy and to help ensure that our design worked within the principles of that strategy.
Regular and consistent communication with all parties was key to the successful delivery of this project and we ensured we allowed sufficient resource and had regular meetings with all parties to fully understand the brief and ensure it was successfully translated in the design and onto site.
